Just recently I've started getting lag spikes. The earliest I could find complaints regarding this exact issue are from 2012. If so you may close this question. Might be the same issue, but no solution that I could find. I have tried to go through those, however.
This has happened several times now. Also, all internal temps remain steady and normal. Yesterday I spend a lot of time figuring out what made Diablo 3 freeze for like 1 second. I do not understand before the last patch it was fine but now it freezes and I have to forcibly shut my computer down each time. If so that could be the problem.

It could be networking related, since Diablo 3 is always-online. I never had these problems with plain Diablo 3 even in multiplayer. Thanks for the advice guys. Vorak, While there have been a few reports of this symptom, we've yet to be able to reproduce it in-house. Right now when I am playing Diablo 3, whenever I start up the game everything is fine. This is sometimes done as a performance bandaid, but it can starve necessary background processes and cause strange issues. Edit 2: Ran for about an hour longest yet and then froze again. Temp monitor shows no spikes or problems like that but with the freezing cannot really check that before the freeze. I can highlight text without seeing the highlight and copy-paste into another program, for example, so I know things aren't truly locked up.
No strange noises, and no strange graphical issues. Sound completely stops until it unfreezes. The 1 second is completely a perception time and the more fed up I got the longer I would say the freezes last. I play Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and have about 62~ games installed on Steam, of which I play about 30 regularly. I have a secondary monitor.
Try setting the Operating system to windows 98, I was having a problem simmilar to this, everything timed out and I had problems using the auction house for more than a few seconds. I've already fully reinstalled the entire game again but the problem still persists. Running wire to my room is also out of the question because of a prior idiot roommate that caused some pretty significant damage to a wall trying to do the same. Turning vsync off both on the control panel and in game causes some bad screan tearing quite often. Although, no matter what setting the graphics are on it still freezes for a few seconds then catches up.
